MINNESOTA STATE FAIR

Its getting colder day by day here in Minnesota. Before the fall and snow showers there was huge and largest state fair which is going around for the people to enjoy the yummilicious food and entertainment for kiddos. Here is a brief about the Minnesota state Fair.. and I am also sharing some of the pictures. If you are not calorie conscious there are lot of stuffs to taste, Starting from French fries to deep fried chocolate bars everything was tasty. If you are a non-vegetarian lover the choices are endless. You can taste variety of wine, beer etc. Emphasis is given to locally grown Minnesota vegetables, fruits and flowers; all these things are showcased in the fair , these are very colorful. We tasted some, and was drooling over other stuffs :( . Apart from the food , drinks and rides there are lot of Art and Craft exhibits. Here are some pictures and if you want to take a look at other fair pictures just go with this link.....More Photos.

MINNESOTA STATE FAIR

The Minnesota State Fair is the state fair of the U.S. state of Minnesota. Its slogan is "The Great Minnesota Get-Together." It may be the largest state fair in the United States in terms of average daily attendance, though the State Fair of Texas runs twice as long and is the largest by annual attendance. It is held at the state fairgrounds, adjoining the Saint Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. The site is in the suburb of Falcon Heights, Minnesota, midway between the state's capital city of St. Paul and the largest city, Minneapolis. Residents of the state and region come to the fair to be entertained, exhibit their best livestock, show off their abilities in a variety of fields including art and cooking, learn about new products and services, and enjoy many different types of food—often on a stick. It typically runs for twelve days, running from late August into early September with the last day being Labor Day.

There were lot and lots of nuts. I bought cinnamon Almonds, Praline pecans and Buttered caramel peanuts.

EGGLESS MANGO ICECREAM

Ingredients :

Choose nice and sweet Mango - 1 big
Fresh Cottage Cheese - 175 gms approximately
Thick cream - 1 cup
( You can use heavy cream, half and half anything but in liquid state)
Vanilla Sugar - 1/4 cup it actually depends on the sweetness of the mangoes that we are going to use.

Method :

1. Scoop out the mango and drop in the blender with the cottage cheese, cut into chunks. Blend well. Blend till thoroughly creamy and no lumps remain.
2.Pour the thick cream into a wide bowl. Whip cream and ground sugar.
3. Fold it with the Mango mixture.
4.Pour in a tub or air tight container such as Tupperware and freeze for three hours. Remove and blend with an immersion blender. If not try whisking with a beater till well blended.
5.Refreeze overnight and serve the next day.

Scoop and serve as you like!!!! It will not melt easily because of cottage cheeseI am going to try it out with other fruits too.

MY 100th POST

Today I am very happy to post my 100th post. November 5th 2008, the day I started my own food blog and entered the blogging world. When I started this blog I was very very slow posting dishes then I was in full swing for past 4 months. In this past 8 months I have made a lot of wonderful blogger friends. It had been really so exciting and fun in participating different events and learning new things from the others friends too. I got lots of lovely, encouraging comments from all of you " Huge thanks to all of you who came to my blog and leaving lovely comments" I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. This really encouraged me so much and it was like a power booster. And also I must thank my hubby and my sweet son for their constant support who tolerates and waits for me and the dish until I take pictures and serve them. Next is my parents and my family members who truely appreciates and encourages me a lot.

So to celebrate my century post for a change instead of posting the recipe I am posting a visual treat of a farm where we really enjoyed picking vegetable and fruits in lovely weather. As soon as we entered the farm we were welcomed by beautiful peacock which I have never seen with a gorgeous pose..

MY FARMERS MARKET SHOPPING

I love to go shopping to farmers market to see new vegetables. So when I went there I was surprised to see colored cauliflower. The colors are orange and purple. We can find green too in many places which is hybrid of broccoli and cauliflower. Here is another color....for viewing

Is it wonderful? Yah the texture and taste was also good to cook and eat, the color remained the same when cooked too. Eating colorful vegetables is good for health. Red, green and yellow vegetables have different nutritional values , so making food colorfully is interesting to see and taste.

VISUAL TREAT

We had a get together at our home. Did pulao, mint rice, chappathi, raita, kesari, paneer butter masala and curd rice with pickle. Appetizer was corn soup and pappad.

Masala pappad is toasted in flame. Its topped with finely chopped onion, deseeded tomato, coriander with hint of lemon and green chilli topped over the pappad. Good accompaniment for soup in cold weather and rainy days.
